Deborah Smith Health Consulting has a track record of undertaking successful consulting projects for healthcare clients throughout the UK. The projects vary in size from small specific assignments, such as coaching individuals, to providing input to large national projects or programmes.

My Background

Deborah Smith Health Consulting was established in October 2003 by Debbie Smith.

"Prior to setting up the company, I had worked in and around the NHS for over 15 years. As a qualified pharmacist, I worked in a variety of roles in which I had gained experience in managing change, facilitation and engaging stakeholders. I was, and still am, driven by a genuine desire to make a difference to the delivery of healthcare in the UK. And I believed that as an independent consultant, I could use my skills more widely and in different ways.

And so I set up Deborah Smith Health Consulting Ltd.

Over the last three years, I have been privileged to work with a wide range of clients on both small and large projects. I have learned lots from working on those projects that I use to continue to develop and improve the services I offer. For example, I began to see that clients got more benefit from the projects where we worked collaboratively, when they tried out new things and they learned new skills. Understanding this, encouraged me to develop the Coaching services I now offer.

I also learned, from my clients, that one of the key benefits of engaging me as an independent consultant was the external perspective and objectivity that I introduced. They also told me that my ‘warm and engaging style’ and ‘pragmatic approach’ were really important to them, and helped to ensure co-operation of others.

People often ask me why I work in healthcare consulting. It’s simple …I care about the success of the NHS and those that work within it. And I understand how difficult it can be to continually strive to improve quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness in the delivery of patient care.

Helping prepare for the future of the NHS

The ever changing nature of healthcare is driven by advances in medicine, technology, government policy and patient expectation. The speed of change is so rapid. And it takes real effort and resource to manage the change of people, services and technology at every level within the NHS.

But supporting people to address these challenges is what drives me – and most importantly seeing them succeed makes it all worthwhile."
